Farewell to Jay Fluck

A giant for Brown Rugby

​

For 57 years as a player, coach and administrator, he made an enormous impact on Brown and college rugby.  â€‹

Jay Fluck was so average in physical stature that you would not have given this Brown University alumnus a second glance if you passed him on the downtown streets in Providence, where he worked in commercial real estate.

But in the world of rugby extending far beyond College Hill, Jay Fluck — pronounced fluke — was a giant. Ruggers in England, Ireland, Bermuda, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, South Africa, anywhere on this planet men — and now women — relish banging heads without helmets, getting bruised and bloodied and then gathering for a beer or three, knew, respected and loved him.

Independents Red  Team Takes the All Stars Championship

​

Over the weekend of January 18/19, Brown Men’s Rugby head coach David Laflamme once again led the northeast regional all star teams, the New England Independents, into the National Collegiate Rugby All Stars tournament.  The Independents are the academy team for our local professional rugby team, Major League Rugby’s back-to-back league champions, the New England Free Jacks.  Brown Men's Rugby sent 7 players this year.  The Independents Red side claimed their 3rd NCR All Star title in the last 4 years.​
